Kings' Hall and Benedictine' place in Lorsch
Project type:
Oil painting
Date
1998
Location
Lorsch, Germany
Since the end of the 1990s, the landscape painter Ingrid Haupt-Rosenbaum has been fascinated by the southern Hessian town of Lorsch with its unique monastery complex. The King's Hall in particular is very picturesque. It is considered the best-preserved Carolingian building north of the Alps. The Benedictine monks opened the world-famous monastery on this early ice age sand dune in Lorsch. The central square in front of the King's Hall is aptly called Benediktinerplatz and is lined with numerous bars and retailers. The King's Hall was inaugurated by Charlemagne in 774. The former monastery complex in Lorsch has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991.
